We have many great social skills programs at the clinic. This session was about learning about difference and connection between “thinking” and “feeling”. This little one decided the clinic giraffe is thinking he would like to go home to his place to live 😂 #occupationaltherapy #paediatrics #kids #littlelearnersstudio #play #autism #autismawareness #adhd #ot #goals #grossmotorskills #finemotorskills #handwriting #teachersofinstagram #fun #socialskills #activitiesforkids #lea
Has anyone else ever wondered why people make overflow movements with their mouths when they are concentrating? I see it a lot when children have difficulty writing. The reason for it is the link between the sucking reflex and the palmar reflex. Our hands and mouths are linked due to early reflexes. When a baby feeds they often knead their hands demonstrating the link. Fascinating!
Some retained reflex motor patterns are retained in children and impact on current functioning. For example the cute little sword fighter pose children make in the first 6 months (see picture), can cause all sorts of difficulties if retained after around 6 months. Occupational therapists check reflexes as part of their assessment process.
